Shouldn’t we take the medicine that we are prescribing to
others?
I think we should, and that’s why I am hoping to take alternate Thursday
afternoons off to attend my local water committee. I haven’t found out yet where
it meets, and I am not sure what to say, but water is so important to us all.
The local health committee meets Sunday afternoons, so that’s ok. My wife always
goes to the Parents-Teacher Association meetings, but the teachers said I should
tag along because of the needed gender balance in the committee. The meetings
are after work, so I can manage.
One evening last week John McGrory came around. He lives in the neighborhood. He
has been between jobs for a while and hence was available to do some community
mobilization work for the United Rescue Aid Society.
He said he would help me to identify my own problems, and help me solve them by
applying assessment, analysis and action. As it turned out, he couldn’t help me
find a better paid job, which would solve many of my problems.
But that triple A was good. First I assessed that I had planned to help my kids
with their math homework. Then I analyzed that McGrory was preventing me from
doing just that. So I took action and showed him to the door.
