Varzob Hike - Tajikistan

Summary: A medium length interesting hike north of Dushanbe, with good views across the Varzob valley. From the valley floor, a steep ascent leads to a higher plateau, and continues to the village of Fanfarok. From there, a viewpoint is reached, before descending to the picnic place at a stream. From here, follow a dirt road back into the Varzob valley. From here, a few hundred meters lead back to where you left the car. This is an excellent hike for the shoulder season, and suitable for a late start.

General location and approach: North of Dushanbe, along the highway to Khujand. Varzob is a summer resort for wealthy Tajiks who want to escape the summer heat.
