Kulla e Markes

Summary: If you are in the Peshkopi area, a short but worthy detour is to Kulla e Markes, an old defense tower.

The tower is signposted as a national monument, but not many visitors appear to make it there. For the last bit of the road a 4WD comes handy. The Kulla is in private hand, but the owners were ready to give us a short tour.

It would be nice if someone could bring itself to renovating the tower - it certainly seems worth it. We visited the tower in August 2011 - perhaps something has happened?

General location and approach: The turn off is along the Peshkopi - Bulquize road. In 2011 there was a national monument signpost to the Kulla. As so often, the sign is only along the main road.
